Asking for money

Just now at the hawker stalls an old man came over to ask for money from me. He asked for $1 and I gave him 50cents. He said he didn't bring any money but he want to buy some drinks.

It wasnt out of fear that i gave him the 50cents but there have been cases when I refuse to gave & I regretted it, especially from old person.

I still recall when I was in hometown, an old man approached me for 50cents & I told him I dont have. He looks dissapointed and when later I told my dad, Dad told me "What if he really needs it". I was like 12-13, 50cents was a whole big deal for me. Anyway, I regretted not giving him because I fear he was conning me.

Another incidents happen when I was around 20yo. An Indian riding a bike with a punctured tyre asking me to borrow him RM10, I refuse because I scare he has conning me. I regretted it deeply after that. He was riding the bike and a puncture tyre and yet I refuse.

So this time, I gave in to the old man demand but only half of what he asked for but He still got his $1 milo with 50cents. HE must be a regular?
